Kyoto Cafe Hopping - Omiya-dori (1/3)

Hi everyone!

Today, 5/5 was my second day off of the month. And Happy Children's Day! It's the last day of the Golden Week in Japan, and I'm so happy because now the crowd will be less.

This morning I woke up a bit later than usual, did my laundry like I always do on my day off, and did a quick research on where to go today. I decided to check out some shops on Omiya-dori and Kuramaguchi-dori in the southern part of Kyoto city!

But on this post, I will be talking about the first part of my Omiya-dori adventure.

Like always, I explore alone. I truly enjoy going out on my own now, and I'm so glad that I was actually able to find peace in doing so. Don't get me wrong - I also enjoy going out with people, and I do feel lonely a lot of times. It's just that I'm a combination of extrovert and introvert. There are times when I need the presence of people, but also I need my 'me-time'. Especially today, I found the space where my soul could truly be at peace. But... it'll be on the second part of this Omiya-dori journey!

At first, on my list were listed these places: STARDUST, Circus Coffee,  breadhouse Bamboo, suves vegetus, cafe & galerie ULUCUS, and Kawakitaya. Unfortunately, due today being a public holiday, some shops closed and thus I couldn't go to all the places on the list.

I took bus #9 from Horikawatakoyakushi bus stop to Kamihorikawa bus stop. From there, a little bit of walk, then you will see a rather interesting Japanese-style shop. It's my supposed-to-be first stop, Circus Coffee. I went closer, then... found out that the shop was not open today. Okay... I lost a bit of excitement... But it's okay. I proceeded to see my list again, and googled the location of Cafe & Galerie ULUCUS. It was just a few houses next to Circus Coffee! Lucky!

This is how ULUCUS looks like from the outside. A little bit hard to notice, and a house next to it also looked like the cafe.

The staff lady asked me straight what drink I wanted. I thought they would give me a menu or something, but they didn't. I ordered hand drip coffee.

Coffee was good. Inside the cafe was warm and bright. I wanted to take more pictures, but the couple that sat next to me, especially the lady didn't look like she wanted to be in my pictures so I restrained myself from taking pictures. I waited until they finished. Then, I went to the counter and asked the lady if it's okay to take pictures and she said yes. I then took a picture of her, chat a bit with her and the male staff. They can speak a bit of English and that helped a lot!

I told them that the coffee was good. They then revealed that the coffee beans that they use were all from Circus Coffee. Thanks to the staff and the relaxing atmosphere, I really enjoyed my visit, and I think I may be visiting again. Especially because I haven't been able to try Circus Coffee!
