Kyoto Cafe - Iyemon Salon Cafe & Lounge Kyoto
Konnichiwa from Kyoto!
Today after work, I went to Omiya Gojo to deliver some soft drinks to Wanli's hostel. I didn't actually meet her or anything, I just bought some drinks and put it in front of her hostel and left a note. I'm still not sure if she's received it or not. Hopefully someone notices the plastic bag and pass it to her.
I was trying to be secretive and all, but on my way home, not far from her hostel, I met her! I was panicking internally, and she kept asking me why I was there. I panicked so much that I questioned her back instead. I feel sorry but I had to lie to her by saying that I was on my way back from work (that's actually not a lie, though...). I then just quickly talked to her and we parted very soon.
I'm not sure we are going to meet again, but that's not the point of this post. This post will contain some photos and story about my late dinner. Later today, I video-called with my family and then went out to eat at almost 9pm. I walked around the area, then found Cao Cafe. It's a very uniquely designed cafe with very limited seat. So I went in and the staff asked me if I had reservation. I said no, and he refused me by saying they were full. It was totally alright, I understood. It's just that I didn't really like the way the staff turned me down - as if I was a bother by coming without reservation. I went out feeling a little pissed.
Then I just continued walking to the main street - then I saw Iyemon Salon. Before I came to Kyoto, Iyemon Salon was already on my to-visit list because it's near my apartment. This place sells some very Japanese stuffs like matcha, seasonal Japanese cuisine, Japanese breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I went in, the staff put me on the waiting list (even though I knew there were seats available), and I waited for like 10 minutes before they gave me a table. The cafe and lounge are very pretty and gives this comfy feeling. They also sell some tea and they have a tiny library.
Once I sat down, the waiter immediately gave me English menu. Very helpful. There were 3 menus: drink, food, and dessert. All in English (Yay!). To be honest, I find it overpriced even though I notice that it is a rather fancy place with nice decor, though. Apparently their breakfast is popular.
I was very confused about what I wanted to eat. Then a waiter came and I asked him between the pork rice bowl and pasta, which would he recommend. He said maybe he'd choose the pasta - so I chose the original Iyemon Salon pasta.

It was green (??) and delicious! The portion was not bigenough, so I ordered Iyemon Salon Shokado Oyatsu - a big platter of Japanese sweets.
When a female staff served me my dessert, I noticed that she could speak English rather well, so I started conversation with her. She also responded well to me, so we started talking for quite long! The lovely lady's name is Rika and she is a Japanese who just came back from study abroad in Vancouver, Canada for a year. She just came back last month and now she's studying Law in Kyoto. She's very nice and friendly, and we even started planning on going out together. We exchanged LINE IDs, and became friends.
Back to the dessert, this was how the dessert looked like!
From top left side to right down side, are yokan (azuki bean jelly), matcha roll cake, AMAO strawberry sorbet, chiyoki/higashi, their seasonal Japanese cake (sakura mochi), strawberry fruit tart, Fran Bowers moose, warabi mochi, and then hojicha fresh cream chocolate cake.
I'd say the best ones were the strawberry sorbet and Fran Bowers moose.
The thing I ate last was the sakura mochi. I was very confused whether I should eat the leaf or not, but in the end, I didn't. However, you can actually eat it (I asked Rika)!
Because it was already 10.30pm, I quickly went to the cashier, paid, and then Rika showed me around the lounge area. I took some pictures, then bid her farewell and left the place. It was a lovely dinner, mostly because of Rika.
Percentage of coming back? 59%.
*Note: percentage of coming back is not rating. It doesn't mean that it's a bad place, it's just my personal opinion whether I would go all the way back. I may be going back again if I don't have any more places on my list to visit.
I may go back again to try their seasonal food course. I couldn't order the course menu because it's for 2 or more people. Too bad!
