Kyoto Cafe Hopping - Kitano Tenmangu area (3/4) - Castella do Paulo

Greetings from Kyoto!

Today, I will be posting pictures of Castella do Paulo near the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine
I did know that the shop is very near to the shrine, but I was surprised the moment I went out from the shrine gate, the Spanish-patisserie was just right outside!

I went into the shop and I was told that I had to write my name on the paper outside first and then my name will be called when the table is ready.

I was given the menu and a sofa chair during my waiting. Not long, a couch table in front of the stairs was available and I could start ordering!

I ordered the Cultural Medley Menu ($702 excl. tax)

When the dish came, the waitress explained about the dish to me. She was very nice and let me read the booklet. The pastries, first of all, took me to Minho, the north-west corner of Portugal. She told me to eat it with a fork. Then, I went to Beira Litoral, north-central of Portugal. Because the cake was rather sticky and soft, I ate it with a spoon. Same with Estremadura Ribatejo, from central of Portugal, because it was rather creamy. Lastly, I finished with Japanese Castella. It is a Japanese specialty sponge cake, and I think the Castella was my favorite our of all four. My second favorite would be Minho, then Estremadura Ribatejo and Beira Litoral. Overall, they were all sweet, especially Estremadura Ribatejo and Beira Litoral.

To clean my palate, I ordered iced tea.

The most interesting thing about the visit was the interior of the shop. It really felt like a little Spanish in Kyoto!

Percentage of coming back? 50%

*Note: percentage of coming back is not rating. It doesn't mean that it's a bad place, it's just my personal opinion whether I would go all the way back. I may be going back again if I don't have any more places on my list to visit.
